Jan 16, 2010 - the thing i disagree about is getting writers from the beginning because the designer actually needs to like the story. great vid regardless

Feb 8, 2010 - All hail Warren Spector, the conspiracy theory lector. That man opened so many eyes to the Eye of the Illuminati. Also, Fallout. Also, MGS series. Consumers are the main problem, as the younger generations get into gaming, less and less start with older games, so their skeleton for a game is graphics, not story. And graphics are in the uncanny valley. that's a problem. But not for the publishers, they're hittin big cash with 'tard titles and dlc (they're just big patches, hellooo?)
azrael13b Says:
Feb 13, 2010 - DLC has the potential to bring the PC gaming mod community to console gaming. I agree this isn't how it's used, though. Selling a half finished game and patching it later should be a bad business practice. The same goes for removing content that should have been in the game any way just so that you can sell it separately.Sadly, they're working. Consumers need to realize that if they keep supporting this, nothing will change.

Feb 26, 2010 - Common awesome videogame storytelling ended when the era right before PS2 and Gamecube died.
deaththreats Says:
Mar 4, 2010 - i think that story telling in gaming is due for a massive shot in the arm even more simplistic styles of video games (shoot em ups or fps) are becoming more in depth eg bio shock one and two and modern warfare 2 had an excellent story with some very convincing graphics to back it up
zeroG131 Says:
Mar 4, 2010 - The only Half-Life 2 and Bioshock seem to sell is because of awesome gameplay to back it up and the fact the story is actually IN the gameplay. Unless the gameplay can effectively merge with the story an awesome, well thought up game won't get its just desserts.
tet64 Says:
Mar 7, 2010 - ya know, there is at least one incident I can think of in where a game developer actually did bring a writer in at the start of development. Hironobu Sakaguchi brought in short story writer Kiyoshi Shigematsu to work on Lost Odyssey and the results were wonderfully awesome. And the game itself actually sold quite well. So that right there is proof of concept youre getting at. Now if only other game developers would follow this example.
chinangel Says:
Mar 8, 2010 - Actually a criminal of this is the final fantasy games, which has been telling the same bland story for twenty something years now. I am guilty of buying almost every single one, but that may be a vain attempt to hear a new story, not just a rehashed one with different characters and settings.
Cudgeon Says:
Mar 11, 2010 - just try out things like persona 3 and 4. If you like those, look in the rest of the shin megami tensei series, they do have some refreshing stories, especially for jrpgs, and there mainly pretty well done. Theres still hope in japan, even if its just from the smaller publishers like Atlus.
chinangel Says:
Mar 12, 2010 - @Cudgeon I actually have Personna 4 and I"ve played several entries in the Shin Megami Tensei series, however I find them slightly frustrating because the game's difficulty demands power-levelling, which isn't something I excel at.
