Aug 17, 2010 - @3ld3structo I agree with that. Metal gear solid 4 had to deal with all those loose plot strands from 2 so it was going to be a heavy experience. it's kinda similar to Halo 3: halo 2 kinda ruined the story and halo 3 had to deal with it. sadly, halo 3 is a bit of a garbled mess. awesome gameplay though.

Aug 18, 2010 - Both Kotors had very good storylines, in my opinion, i literally felt CONNECTED with the game, and thats rare for me.

Aug 18, 2010 - If you're looking for good story, simply turn to the zelda series. of course if that genre isn't your type of thing, just play another one of the millions of gun games with no story out there.

3ld3structo Says:

Aug 19, 2010 - @FezzingtonBear1 Agreed, I never could rap my mind around how Halo, a simple FPS, could stand out above the rest. There's no specific aspect I can point out that makes it better but it's just an overall awesome experience

Aug 19, 2010 - "its hard to find well written storys in games" i can think of 10 Final fantasy 1, Funal Fantasy 2, Finalfantasy 3, Final fantasy 4, Final Fantasy 5, Final fantasy 6, Final Fantasy 7, Final Fantasy 8, FInal Fantasy 9, Final fantasy 10. Did i win?

liquidmetaltech Says:

Aug 20, 2010 - ff7, diablo 1 and halo are three good games I can think of which used truly amazing storytelling and got great sales. Unless someone can correct me I believe these were all primarily done by the game developers but I don't understand the story of ff7's story.Anyway, I'm studying computer stuff atm with the hopes of one day working on the storyline side of things and I'm dissapointed with the idea that "writers" need to be included in the team.

liquidmetaltech Says:

Aug 20, 2010 - Dissapointed because I think it would be a bad thing. Writers don't truly appreciate games as an art form. It would be like having someone who hates rap, trying to rap, the product can clearly be called rap, but people who like rap will hate it with all their hearts. And it would suck pretty badly too. Most likely.I don't understand how writers can really get involved unless they both understand and appreciate the gaming art form. I'm studying now so I can understand how programming works.

liquidmetaltech Says:

Aug 20, 2010 - @liquidmetaltech I realise my writing isn't perfect. I'm not concerned. As I age it will only improve. You don't NEED a university degree in something to mean you are good at it. And as for English - well you read alot of books and write alot of stuff about what you just read. In all classes at uni you read and write just like that. :)I'm going to read fun things like Time magazines.... and I'm not 100% sure about the writing part at this point. Sure as hell won't do a boring uni course tho.

liquidmetaltech Says:

Aug 20, 2010 - @liquidmetaltech It's just some of the trash they read... Katherine Mansfield?KATHERINE MANSFIELD???Margaret Atwood? This is why I think poorly of writers entering into the realms of game development. But if by writers we were to be talking about the guys who made the likes of say South Park, Red Dwarf, or... umm... actually I'm struggling to think of well written movies/tv. Anyway I'll leave this at that, with some of these and this is these and that is that.

Zuifan Says:

Aug 24, 2010 - @hankparish since 'well written' can be quite relative, I'd say no. Especially since you only stated seven 'well written' different games, and three copy and pasted games with different sprites.

boborappa Says:

Aug 24, 2010 - @hankparish No. And Final Fantasy 10, 8 and 7 were horribly written.

hankparish Says:

Aug 24, 2010 - @boborappa k. final fantasy mystic quest, final fantasy tatics, final fantasy 13 and #12 was horrible too lol

Aug 26, 2010 - I'n going to be a nerd, but shit, I think Bioshock is the best written game ever.

Serahpin Says:

Aug 26, 2010 - I don't understand why you pick on Resident Evil, when it was written and directed as a B Movie of videogames. The dialogue, "No, don't open that door," "You, Jill, the Master of Unlocking," etc. Even the video of the rubber dog that attacks them in the first scene is meant to play up the hocky-ness.Also, finding videogames with great stories is different from movies. It takes 1-2 hours to watch a movie and how long to play a game? And how many bad movies are out there? It's apples to oranges.

ZippoNick Says:

Aug 27, 2010 - very good, I'm going to watch the whole video series now.

Aug 29, 2010 - @Xaxustheelite Why would you be anerd for thinking that. Bioshock's story was directly lifted from that of system shock 2 so as good as it was it wasn't original.
